Why start a blog? I have a love-hate relationship with social media. I love posting and communicating but the format of things like Facebook feels so insincere. I have decided that, as an artist, it’s important to let people know what I’m up to. What have I been up to? I’m painting! Insightful, I know.
I started the year responding to a call for art from what looked like a small show in Queens, New York. I applied and was accepted to the Nasty Women Art show early in it’s inception.
Those who follow art know this show became well known, including artists from all over the globe and spreading to other venues. I participated in a Nasty show in Queens and later in a show in Nashville, Tennessee. I was proud to use my art to benefit something I believed in. The Nasty Women network has raised 181,000 and counting for women’s rights and social services! I was a part of that! I was fortunate enough to visit the show before it closed, it had a great energy. It was an amazing way to start the year.
In February, I showed three light-hearted paintings in Southbridge Massachusetts. I was so happy to stumble across this call for art. I love making fun art and this was an amazing opportunity for me to do that.
In March, I went to the opening reception for a Juried Exhibition I was accepted to. Juror María Magdalena Campos-Pons selected one of three paintings I submitted for consideration titled “Grandmother’s Scarf.” The show, Up/Rooted, sought to explore origin, displacement and the influence of the past on the future. I was among many great artists, honored to be included in the show.
So that covers what I’ve been up to as an artist recently. Weird how trying to sum up three months of your life turns into an infodump! I look forward to writing more, thanks for reading!
